Overview

The purpose of the Diploma in Health and Social Care at Level 3 is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop their care capabilities within the health and social care sector. This UK-recognized qualification equips learners with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in employment within the health and social care industry. It also facilitates progression to the first year of a degree or a related professional qualification.

The course is designed to achieve the following objectives:

Equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required for successful employment in the health and social care sector.
Enable progression to higher education, including the first year of a degree or a related professional qualification.
Offer specialized study relevant to individual vocations and work environments within the health and social care sector.
Develop learners’ ability to contribute positively to good practice in the health and social care environment through the effective use of acquired knowledge and skills.
Foster the development of transferable skills and knowledge that will enable individuals to adapt to changing industry requirements and pursue further professional development.

During the program, students are expected to develop the following skills:

The ability to read and utilize relevant literature critically and independently.
Independent thinking and problem-solving.
Application of subject knowledge and understanding to address both familiar and unfamiliar issues.
Recognition of moral and ethical considerations in health and social care practice and research, including adherence to ethical standards and professional codes of conduct.
Appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of health and social care service provision.
Capacity to provide a clear and accurate account of a subject and engage in debate and dialogue with both specialists and non-specialists.
Development of transferable skills and knowledge that support adaptation to changing industry demands.

Course Structure

The qualification consists of mandatory and optional units, each covering various topics related to learning outcomes. Each module carries the equivalent of 10 credits. Learners must complete 6 modules to earn the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. Modules involve attending lectures and workshops to introduce the subject matter. Formative assessments (weighted at 0%) may be used during lectures or tutorials to assess knowledge and understanding of specific topics. Units require reflective exams and/or summative assessments for marking.

The Diploma includes 4 Mandatory Units and a minimum of 2 Optional Units.

Entry Requirements

To enroll in the course, learners must meet one of the following criteria:

Hold a Level 2 qualification in Business or an equivalent qualification, or possess relevant substantial work experience.
Demonstrate work experience in the health and social care sector and clear career goals.
Possess a Level 3 qualification in another discipline and aim to develop their careers in health and social care.

Assessment

Student performance is assessed primarily through coursework, following instructions for coursework assignments. There are two categories of assessment tools, each serving specific functions within the learning experience. Assessments evaluate different aspects of learning outcomes.

Learners are required to complete assignments for each unit, with each assignment being a minimum of 1500 words in length. Assignments are a crucial part of learners’ work and must adhere to strict rules regarding plagiarism, referencing, word length, and presentation style. Learners must also sign a declaration of authentication to confirm the authenticity of their work and acknowledge any assistance or sources used.

All learning outcomes must be assessed using assignments suitable for evaluating knowledge, understanding, and skills. Assignments will include questions that address the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit.

To pass a unit, a learner must achieve a minimum mark of 50% on each assignment. Assessors are responsible for planning, gathering, and assessing learner evidence according to postgraduate-level descriptors and Pass/Fail criteria. These assessments should be made available for internal moderation by the center’s Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).

External Quality Assurance (EQA) is conducted by EBMA to monitor the assessment and internal moderation processes within the center, ensuring the assessment remains fit for purpose and meets assessment standards requirements.
